View RecordsCheck a California traffic ticket with the handling court or review your DMV driving record, including missing notices, record fees, and correction options.
To check traffic violations California can mean two different tasks. If the ticket is open and you need the due date, amount, traffic-school option, appearance, or trial choices, use the court handling that citation. California Courts explains that the ticket identifies the handling court and that the court sends a reminder or courtesy notice with the amount due, due date, and options such as traffic school.
The statewide self-help guide says the notice may take 30 days or longer. If it does not arrive, contact the court in the county where the ticket was issued and confirm your actual deadline with that court rather than waiting for the notice.
If the question is what California DMV reports on your driver record, request the DMV driver record rather than searching a county traffic docket. DMV says current driver records contain reportable information such as convictions, departmental actions, and accidents under California reporting rules. The length of time an item appears depends on the category; do not assume every event has the same retention period.

DMV directs requests for another person’s record to a different form and authorized-purpose rules.
Match the product to the recipient’s requirement. A screen print may be enough for personal review but not for an organization that expressly asks for a certified DMV record.
| DMV record route | Published fee / instruction | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Online personal driver record | $2 | View and print after payment; closing the confirmation page before printing requires another purchase to access it again |
| Mailed driver record | $5 | Mail request route |
| Certified copy by mail | Use INF 1125 with the required fee | When the recipient requires a certified DMV copy |
Do not buy the $2 online view and assume it can later be converted into a certified copy. For certification, follow the current INF 1125 mailing route published by DMV.
Note the violation, conviction, collision, or action that appears incorrect.
Obtain the court abstract, dismissal, correction, or other supporting source document when applicable.
DMV identifies DL 207 for incorrect driver-record information and DL 207A for traffic-collision record errors, and also identifies court/law-enforcement source documents that can support correction.
Request a new record after the change posts if you need updated proof.
